A key opportunity has arisen for a Rheology & Particle Characterisation Technical Specialist to identify and evaluate new technologies to drive new / improved service offerings & provide world class scientific consultancy to support both Mondelez & the external business.


The successful candidate will provide expert technical leadership and scientific consultancy in support of RSSL and global Mondelēz business objectives. Linking with Senior Leaders in Global Technical Forums. They will be accountable for undertaking and supervising complex analytical investigative projects & keeping abreast of scientific developments in your field. Represent and exert influence on behalf of Mondelēz in relevant external bodies.


The key area of expertise required for the role is in rheology and particle characterisation. This includes particle sizing from nano to micron range (Malvern Masterziser / Zetasizer), powder flow (shear cell), specific surface area and DVS. For these techniques, a combination of deep technical (theoretical) understanding, hands-on experience and application of these techniques in food and/or pharmaceutical R&D, manufacturing and investigative / troubleshooting situations is required. 

The role holder will demonstrate technical leadership across all MDLZ categories globally. This will include maintaining and growing technical expertise, inspiring and developing other MDLZ physical scientists (including acting as a coach and mentor and trainer), together with understanding and applying business strategy. 

There will be cases where you will be recommending the business technical strategy within this technical area, in line with overall business strategic objectives. The job holder is expected to already have a wide external technical network, and will join the MDLZ global Physical Sciences technical community building a network internally both functionally and also across the business categories. 

  • Proven post-graduate track record and relevant laboratory experience.
  • Recognised specialist e.g. via:
    • Fellow / Member of relevant professional body 
    • History of published work in relevant scientific journals
    • Recognised industry expert in given scientific discipline
  • The individual in this position is a recognized process expert in their discipline and has a demonstrated track record of applying their knowledge across different business areas.
  • Proven experience of authoring technical reports and presenting findings at relevant symposia.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to influence, network and manage internal/external relationships. 
  • Excellent organisational skills including time management and priority setting.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, well organised and strong team working ethos, able to organise own work and other’s to maximise output
  • Ability to deliver projects/work within tight timescales and ability to motivate and mentor junior scientific staff.
  • In-depth scientific and practical expertise in functional area that support strategic & tactical plans. Exhibits and maintains an awareness and understanding of broad scientific advances in field. Track record of outstanding research accomplishments
  • Ability to direct complex analytical problem solving
  • High levels of business acumen with strong ability to interpret, deliver and create new business opportunities.
  • English fluency (written and spoken)
  • PhD in target discipline and extensive technical experience
  • Experience of application of rheology and particle characterization to food systems
  • Good knowledge of laboratory quality and accreditation systems (GMP/UKAS)
  • Career evidence of report publication, with a track record of success.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing & technologies with an ability to apply scientific rationale to providing practical technical solutions.
