This is an excellent opportunity to work within the Research and Development department and gain experience on fast-paced and high profile Supply Chain Reinvention projects. In the SCR team, the Scientist II role is involved in all stages of a product transfer or re-launch project, in a key interface position between Manufacturing, Engineering, BD and Quality functions, and the job holder is responsible for ensuring a successful start-up according to IIM (Innovation Initiative Management) principles.

 

The role requires a broad range of skills and expertise, and encompasses elements of reformulation, product development, specification management, process understanding and project management. In addition to a sound foundation in Food Science and Technology, a rigorous technical approach is required with excellent attention to detail and an ability to negotiate and influence across functional and cultural boundaries.

 

Depending upon project locations and needs, significant travel within Europe may be involved, and the job holder will need to possess self-confidence, initiative, sound judgement and be able to think on their feet and take decisions if working alone at remote sites on occasions.

 

Main responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

 

• Leading projects and work tracks involving transfer and commercialization of products, processes and recipes

• Liaising with other ISC functions (Manufacturing, BD, Engineering, SC Strategy) to provide key technical information to enable a project to proceed smoothly

• Following relevant Mondelez business process such as I-2-M and IIM

• Producing the required documentation for SCR projects – recipes, product & process specifications, IDB (Integrated design Brief), CQV plans, CTQ/CTP & PAPAS standards, trial plans and reports

• Organising and leading trials at various scales – bench, Pilot Plant, Factory – and putting in place the appropriate documentation, testing and validation procedures and using tools such as Design of Experiments

• Liaison with other functions e.g. Marketing, Consumer Science, Analytical, to agree product testing methodology and appropriate actions standards

• Analysing complex data sets and presenting results, conclusions and recommendations to Stakeholders in a clear and influential way

• Creating and maintaining accurate specifications and ensuring shelf-life assessments, etc. are carried out according the procedure

• Carrying out various ad-hoc tasks as required during the course of a project - may include working with Procurement, Suppliers, External Manufacturers, SME’s

• Providing updates of SCR projects to other teams within R&D and other functions

• Using formal and informal networks to keep aware of other projects and activities within RD&Q such as Growth platforms, CREW, Productivity programs which may interface with SCR work


Qualifications

Requirements:

 

• Science or Engineering based University degree (e.g. Food Science/Technology, Chemistry/ Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering) – minimum Bachelor level

• In-depth/hands-on experience within the Food industry in a Product Development, Quality or Manufacturing role (Chocolate or Confectionery experience would be an advantage)

• Good knowledge of raw materials and their functionality within food products.

• Appreciation of food processes and the operation of complex automated lines

• Knowledge of relevant systems used in R&D and Manufacturing environments – Hygiene and Food Safety, Specifications, Quality Control, ERP, CI

• Self-motivated, responsible, team player and ability to set priorities and think for himself/herself.

• Good Project management, planning, monitoring and controlling skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to negotiate and influence at all levels and across functional and cultural boundaries

• Proficient in the use of common IT and software tools

• Fluent English, written and spoken
